Their content is just to poor for the amount of time they want you to spend on it right now. If they really think they can turn duo-lingo into a full fledged language learning option the new organizational path is the logical future for their content. Unfortunately I am increasingly convinced duo-lingo is no longer a good easy/quick steppingstone and still is not a full fledged course to sink a lot of time into. Thus my goal was always to speed through the lessons and upgrade them until Basic proficiency was reached to get a basic footing on the language in a fast relaxed manner before moving to real academic courses and two person speech based practice. IMO the lessons as is were already too repetitive so extra practice lessons are a waste of time and the stories were never interesting enough for me to find motivation to read (I just read books instead longer narratives are more motivational to me). I guess my issue is that I feel at this point in time duo-lingo isn’t strong enough for it to be a good fit. This format really makes sense for a real language learning course. I really did not think I would be feeling this way with the new update. I think I'm going to stop using it and learn in other ways. After doing some math, based on average time to complete a lesson, it would take a new user over 600 hours to complete! I'm sorry, but almost 2 hours every single day for 2 years is not appeasing at all, even to a regular user.Īs a long time supporter of this app and their method. Still need 5 lessons to complete for each circle. Nope! Still seems like each lesson is the same length. But there is at least 5 times as much content now! I thought, maybe the lessons are just shorter. I am definitely not one to complain just because something is new. However, the app has a few unique features: on new words, you can. I was in Unit 5 out of 10 and planning on finishing some time in the near future. Memrise offers similar lessons to Duolingo, introducing new words and phrases with flashcards, listening exercises, and more. I had about 2500 words learned in Spanish - which the word count seems to be removed for some reason. In theory, this is what they are aiming to do. I'm all for changing things, if it means making things better, and for us users to learn more efficiently. I was actually looking forward to the new update.
